It’s not normally top of our activity list – we try to do active, exciting and sometimes ‘extreme’ things… but, we went on one of our regular surf weekends to Mawgan Porth last weekend and it turns out THE thing going on locally was The Annual Mawgan Porth Steam Rally… we had to go.
There were just 8 of us on the trip, all of us camping and the weather was spot on. The waves were quite chunky and so, because most of us were beginners, we decided not to go back in the water on the Saturday afternoon and hiked to the Steam Fair… obviously stopped half way at The Falcon for a cheeky half.
We did get slightly lost and had to hack through some undergrowth to reach the entrance but the fair is a legendary event and is very Cornish.
It wasn’t just steam, but there were vehicles from across the years… it felt like everyone brought a vintage tractor or truck or car.
Have you ever seen tractor pulling? Super powerful vintage tractors pulling a ‘sled’ that gets harder and harder to pull (the tank that turned up and had a go was definitely cheating)
JCB dancing, traction engines, Ford tractor Fordson fillies driving in formation…oh and a beer tent selling local ales ending with music in the evening
All completely bonkers and all completely brilliant.
Let’s go again next year!
