Off the grid

After the excesses of winter, and the failed New Year’s resolutions come hang out with us in the mountains for a week completely different to our normal HOFNAR trips. Relax, recharge, reset.

  • No booze
  • No caffeine
  • Loads of exercise in the fresh air
  • Healthy eating
  • Vote on when we turn the wi-fi off or we’ll go for the full digital detox!

Typical daily programme:

  • Early wake up
  • Morning workout alongside the banks of the River Dranse
  • Breakfast of fresh fruit, protein-rich eggs, herbal tea and decaf coffee
  • Nature is good for us! Every day we’ll go biking, hiking, rafting, climbing or wild swimming. It’s a great time of year for spotting wildlife and we’ll keep an eye out for Chamois deer and the elusive marmot. There are no lifts operating at this time of year so we’ll be taking on a few of these hills!
  • We’ll be doing yoga and meditation sessions each day, sometimes at the top of a mountain.
  • In the evenings we’ll eat well, but healthily with an emphasis on fresh local food and plenty of fruit and vegetables (Click here for example menu)

Our programme will be co-ordinated by local and qualified fitness and yoga instructors, with guides taking us on the other activities.

For our regular guests, more used to beer on tap and local cheese overload, this week will be a little bit of a challenge… can you do it?

Chalet Skade is the quintessential mountain chalet, located 7 minutes walk from the main Super Morzine lift, and 10 minutes into the village.

Choose a triple or twin/double room.

There is a log fire, enormous balcony with views across the valley, wi-fi, a pool and darts room, sauna and one of the best-situated mountainside hot tubs in Morzine.

We like to maintain a laidback and – occasionally – party vibe, at a slightly lower price point, so we aim this chalet at our twenty and thirtysomething guests.

As much as we love winter, we reckon that Morzine during the summer is one of the Alps’ best kept secrets. The town still isn’t quite as busy as the winter, but this is part of its charm – the vibe is laid-back, active and outdoorsy.

Just 1hr and 20 minutes from Geneva, the resort is one of the easiest and quickest to get to from the UK. This historic mining and farming town has avoided the ugly tower blocks that blight many of the French resorts and remains a ‘real’ French town with a market on a Wednesday morning and a year-round population.

There’s way more to do here than when the snow is on the ground. Go hiking, biking, rafting, wild swimming, golf, horse riding, SUP-ing, fishing, climbing, paragliding, canyoning, picnic-ing, tree swinging, go karting, bbq-ing… there really is something for everyone. And with the rise of downhill, enduro and road biking the town gets more and more exciting every year.

We also see some really great events; Spartan, Harley Days and the Tour de France are all often in town. Summer in the Alps – amazing!
